Quick reference guide
The width and height you set are in pixels: the barcode’s digital size. Pixels only become inches or millimetres when you print, and that depends on DPI (dots per inch). A barcode that looks 3 inches wide on your monitor won’t print at 3 inches, because your screen and your printer work at different DPI.
That’s what the Resolution setting is for. Print (300 dpi) keeps the size you chose (200 px prints about 2.8 inches wide) but draws it with four times the detail, and saves the DPI in the file so it prints at that size. Screen (72 dpi) gives you the exact pixel size, for websites and marketplace listings.
Most laser and inkjet printers print at 600 DPI or more, far beyond what a barcode needs. If you’re printing labels, print one test sheet and adjust the size until it fits. For packaging, send your designer the SVG or EPS file: they’re vectors, so they print sharp at any size.

Don’t go below these minimums: smaller barcodes won’t scan reliably. There’s no upper limit, so go as large as you like.
PNG and JPEG bars are drawn on whole pixels, so every bar stays sharp. When the width doesn’t divide evenly, the spare pixels become blank margin on both sides.

- Small rectangle: 200 × 100 px (the default)
- Long rectangle: 400 × 100 px
- Long slim: 400 × 50 px, for narrow labels
- Medium square: 300 × 300 px

Which file type should I use?

Raster or vector EPS? Many generators save a raster EPS: a picture wrapped in an EPS file, which blurs when you enlarge it, just like a PNG. Ours are true vector EPS files. The bars are shapes, so a 200 × 200 file can be stretched to 4000 × 4000 with no loss in quality.
What about GIF? We don’t offer it. For barcodes, PNG does the same job better.
Bulk barcode questions
Is the bulk barcode generator free?
Yes. There’s no sign-up and no watermark. Make up to 5,000 barcodes per batch, and run as many batches as you need.
Does it calculate check digits?
Yes. Paste 11-digit UPCs or 12-digit EANs and the check digit is added for you. A code whose last digit is wrong is skipped and listed with the correct digit, because a wrong check digit usually means a typo somewhere else in the number. To check codes one at a time, use the UPC check digit calculator.
Can I mix UPC and EAN codes in one list?
Yes. Leave Code type on Detect from length: 12 digits is read as UPC-A, 13 as EAN-13 and 8 as EAN-8. If your list is 12-digit EAN-13 codes without their check digit, choose EAN-13 instead.
Are my codes uploaded anywhere?
No. The barcodes are drawn in your browser and zipped on your computer. Nothing you paste is sent to us or stored.
Will these barcodes work on Amazon and in stores?
The images are standard UPC-A and EAN-13 barcodes that scan anywhere. What matters is the number inside: it has to be assigned to your business. If you don’t have codes yet, you can buy UPC codes and turn them into barcodes here.
How do I open the ZIP file?
Double-click it. Windows and macOS both open ZIP files without extra software. Each barcode is named after its code, for example 036000291452.png.
What size should I print my barcode?
GS1 allows a UPC between 80% and 200% of its standard size. At 100% it’s 1.468 inches wide including the blank margins, with bars at least 0.9 inches tall. Keep the blank margins clear, print a test and scan it on the real material before you run a full batch.
Can I use these barcodes in Canva, Word or Illustrator?
Yes. Use SVG for Canva, Figma and Illustrator, since it stays sharp at any size, and EPS for older print software. PNG works well in Word and label programs. Avoid stretching a PNG, because that blurs the bars.
